Let them have cake inscriptions! Careful of the instructions you give when ordering online cakes

UPSC Practice recommends Let them have cake inscriptions! Careful of the instructions you give when ordering online cakes.

Last week, a Nagpur resident ordered what looked like a perfectly lovely chocolate cake from a well-known city bakery. In the order detail – and this may be the cause of confusion – he made the innocuous query, ‘Please mention if the cake contains egg.’ Perhaps, as these online businesses have it, a bot responded to the question. It (mis)read the gentleman’s ‘please mention’ as a request to write on the cake, which was carried out with the telling words: ‘Contain (sic) egg.’
