UPSC Practice recommends Protect data without stifling enterprise.

The Bill will be reintroduced, in the words of Ashwini Vaishnaw, ‘soon’, as part of a raft of legislation that should ideally have taken all the criticism lobbed at India’s inadequate data protection regime in the four years of deliberations that went into the making of the withdrawn Bill. These concerns involve diluting the right to privacy by including in the scope of the law non-personal data, local storage of data collected by businesses, and sweeping powers to the government.
