Background

Overview

Cybersecurity is a critical aspect of national security, economic stability, and individual privacy in the digital age. UPSC examines India's preparedness, policy frameworks, and challenges in combating cybercrime, relevant for GS3 (Internal Security, Science & Technology) and GS2 (Governance, Data Protection).

Cybersecurity refers to the practice of protecting systems, networks, and programs from digital attacks, which are usually aimed at accessing, changing, or destroying sensitive information, extorting money from users, or interrupting normal business processes. Data breaches occur when unauthorized individuals gain access to confidential or sensitive information, often due to system vulnerabilities.
