Background
Overview
UPSC examines the causes, consequences, and management of ethnic conflicts as they impact national integration, internal security (GS3), and the functioning of India's federal system (GS2), especially in sensitive border regions like the Northeast, where demands for autonomy are prevalent.
Ethnic conflicts in India, particularly in regions like the Northeast, often stem from historical grievances, competition over resources, identity politics, and demands for greater autonomy or separate administrative units, posing significant challenges to internal security and federal stability.
