Background
Overview
UPSC frequently examines the formation, objectives, implications, and challenges of regional security groupings (e.g., NATO, SCO, ASEAN) and their impact on global and regional power dynamics, as well as India's strategic interests and foreign policy.
Regional security alliances are formal agreements between states in a particular geographical area to cooperate on security matters, often including provisions for collective defence where an armed attack against one member is considered an attack against all. These alliances aim to enhance regional stability, deter aggression, and manage shared security challenges.
