Overview
TRIFED is an important statutory body for tribal welfare, economic development, and the implementation of government schemes. Its role in promoting tribal entrepreneurship, preserving cultural heritage, and ensuring fair trade practices for tribal communities is significant for GS2.
TRIFED is a national-level apex organization under the administrative control of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. It was established in 1987 under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 1984 (later the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002) with the primary objective of socio-economic development of tribal people in the country by institutionalizing the trade of tribal products.
