PARLIAMENT QUESTION: BHARAT FORECAST SYSTEM

The Bharat Forecast System (BharatFS) is India's indigenously developed high-resolution global weather prediction model, operating at 6 km horizontal resolution using a Triangular Cubic Octahedral (TCo) dynamical grid. Powered by supercomputing facilities Arka (IITM-Pune) and Arunika (NCMRWF-Noida), it significantly enhances India's real-time weather forecasting capabilities, making India the only country running such a high-resolution global model. BharatFS aims to provide localized forecasts at the panchayat level and improve the prediction of extreme weather events, thereby aiding farmers in crop planning, water authorities in reservoir management, and strengthening disaster preparedness. Developed by Indian institutions like IITM-Pune, NCMRWF-Noida, and IMD, it aligns with the 'Make in India' initiative, advancing India's scientific capabilities and reinforcing its regional leadership.
