DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF MUSEUMS AND CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS
The Ministry of Culture is spearheading a digital transformation of India's museums and cultural institutions to preserve and disseminate cultural assets. Key initiatives include the JATAN software (developed by C-DAC, Pune) for digitizing museum collections, the Museums of India portal as a national digital repository, the Gyan Bharatam Mission for manuscript heritage, and the Abhilekh Patal portal by the National Archives of India for archival records. Institutions like NCSM, IGNCA, and ASI are leveraging advanced technologies such as AR, VR, and AI for immersive visitor experiences, digital documentation of antiquities, and virtual exhibitions. Collaborative efforts with academic institutions like IIT Kharagpur and Google Art & Culture are also underway to enhance heritage conservation and digital innovation. The Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) organizes educational programs and visits to promote heritage awareness.
