Government Strengthens Drug De-addiction and Awareness Initiatives in Jammu & Kashmir Under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan
The Central Government is actively implementing the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) across India, including Jammu & Kashmir, to combat substance abuse. Led by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), the campaign focuses on awareness generation, de-addiction, rehabilitation, and counselling services. It provides financial assistance to states, UTs, and NGOs, and supports a network of facilities like Integrated Rehabilitation Centres for Addicts (IRCA) and Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs). Launched on August 15, 2020, and now expanded to all districts, NMBA also operates a national toll-free helpline (14446) and emphasizes community participation, particularly among youth and women, and in educational institutions.
