New hybrid magneto rheometer can advance nano smart magnetorheological fluid technologies
Scientists from IIT Patna, supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), have developed a novel hybrid magneto-rheometer. This device is designed to accurately characterize the performance of magnetorheological (MR) fluids, which are 'smart' materials whose viscosity rapidly changes when subjected to a magnetic field. The new rheometer can measure both rheological and tribological behavior of MR fluids in a complex compression plus shear mode, providing a better understanding for their application in adaptive technologies across medicine, aerospace, defense, and automation.
