Human-elephant conflict: Crop loss, property damage caused by tuskers highest post-monsoon, says study
A study analyzing over 20,000 human-elephant conflict incidents around Bandipur and Nagarahole National Parks found that conflict is highest in areas with more cropland and during the post-monsoon harvest season. Cropland extent was the most robust predictor, as it offers nutrient-rich forage. Contrary to expectations, artificial light sources were positively associated with conflict.
