Background
Overview
FRA is a crucial legislation for tribal rights, forest conservation, and rural development. Its implementation challenges, impact on forest governance, and role in social justice are frequently discussed in GS2 (Social Justice, Government Policies) and GS3 (Environment, Land Reforms).
The Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, was enacted by Parliament to rectify historical injustices against forest-dwelling communities. It legally recognizes and vests forest rights in Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers who have occupied forest land for generations, specifically before December 13, 2005.
