Background

Overview

Nuclear proliferation is a critical global security challenge, impacting international stability, arms control treaties, and the role of international organizations in preventing the spread of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs).

Nuclear proliferation refers to the spread of nuclear weapons, fissionable material, and weapons-applicable nuclear technology and information to states not recognized as 'nuclear-weapon states' under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). Disarmament aims to reduce or eliminate such weapons, often through international treaties and verification regimes.
