The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) removed a controversial AI-generated advertisement on X (formerly Twitter) that targeted 'Mr. Singh' and asked him to self-deport, following widespread backlash from Indian-American and Sikh advocacy groups, as well as Democratic leaders. The ad, which used Transformers-style imagery, was condemned as 'racist propaganda' and 'un-American' for racially profiling the Sikh and Indian-American communities. The DHS defended its campaign against unlicensed commercial drivers but faced criticism for singling out a specific surname common among Sikhs and Hindus, fueling xenophobia and discrimination. The incident highlighted concerns about the ethical use of AI in government communication and the challenges faced by diaspora communities.
