Annual allocation for archaeological excavations increased to ₹10 crore in T.N.

The Tamil Nadu government has significantly increased its annual allocation for archaeological field surveys, excavations, and underwater explorations from ₹7 crore to ₹10 crore. A modern archaeological laboratory will be established for scientific analysis of artefacts. Under the Tamil Heritage Conservation Mission, 76 protected monuments will be renovated, and a digital database for ancient Tamil inscriptions using AI will be created. Field research will document ancient Tamil maritime trade links. The allocation for conservation of protected monuments and excavation museums has also been increased. Additionally, the government is promoting traditional folk arts like Karagattam, Kummi, Oyilattam, and Kolattam by mandating performances at government events, establishing art research centres, and increasing financial assistance to economically disadvantaged artists. Plans include a Tamil Heritage Museum in Madurai and declaring 2026–27 as 'Visit Museum Year'.
