Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives in New Delhi to attend BRICS summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited New Delhi for the 18th BRICS summit in September 2026, marking his first in-person BRICS participation outside Russia since the Ukraine war. The summit, hosted by India, focused on enhancing collective resilience in food, energy, health, disaster reduction, and critical supply chains amidst a fragmented geopolitical environment, global economic challenges, and the Russia-Ukraine war. UN chief also emphasized multipolarity and UNSC reforms. Putin also held bilateral talks with PM Narendra Modi to expand cooperation in defence, energy, technology, pharmaceuticals, and people-to-people exchanges, with other world leaders also attending the summit.

India, U.S. armies step up combat interoperability with 22nd Yudh Abhyas

The 22nd edition of the annual bilateral military exercise, Yudh Abhyas, has commenced between the Indian and United States armies. The exercise, held from September 9 to 28, focuses on high-altitude warfare, long-range precision fires, counter-drone capabilities, and operational interoperability. It involves Arctic-trained soldiers from the U.S. Army’s 11th Airborne Division and the 3rd Multi-Domain Task Force, and features the deployment of advanced counter-drone technology like the Mobile Low, Slow, Small Unmanned Aircraft Integrated Defeat System (MLIDS). Conducted under the strategic framework of Operation Pathways, the exercise aims to strengthen defence cooperation between the two nations.
